What the IRS expects in a mileage log
A good log is written at the time of the trip and shows the date, where you went, the business purpose and the miles. That's exactly what each row here records. Keep your sourcing receipts too, since they show the trip was for the business.
Which reseller trips count?
- Driving to thrift stores, estate sales, garage sales and auctions to buy inventory.
- Dropping packages at the post office or a UPS store.
- Buying shipping supplies, or going to the bank for the business.
- Meeting a local buyer to hand over an item.
Personal stops on the same trip don't count. If you start from home and your home is your main place of business, ask a tax professional how it applies to you. This tool is not tax advice.
